Description
Metallic Details MDR4874 is a mixed-media upgrade for the F9F-2 Panther in 1/48, designed for the Trumpeter kit. It adds structure to the wing folding mechanism using resin, photo-etched, and 3D-printed parts, targeting the hinge and internal fold area that becomes visible when the wings are posed folded.
The F9F Panther is a carrier-based jet where a folded-wing display can turn the hinge bay into a focal point. This set is intended to improve the look of that hinge region without changing the overall wing planform, keeping fit dependent on the kit’s fold option and alignment.
For modelers: decide early whether you will display the wings folded or extended, because the hinge area affects assembly order. Dry-fit the fold parts with the wing halves and the wing-to-fuselage joint, then lock in the hinge angle before paint. Paint the hinge bay and mechanism as a sub-assembly, and add the smallest PE items after base coats so edges stay crisp.
