Ryan BQM-34A (Q-2C) Firebee is a 1/48 scale plastic aircraft model kit from ICM representing the jet-powered target drone developed in the United States during the Cold War period. The Firebee series was widely used for training, testing, and reconnaissance missions. This kit also includes a transport trailer used for handling and deployment of the drone. The model is supplied as an unpainted and unassembled plastic kit.
The Firebee family originated in the 1950s as a remotely controlled aerial target for air defense training. Later versions, including the BQM-34 series, were adapted for reconnaissance and operational roles. These drones were launched from ground platforms or aircraft and used in several testing and training environments.
Ryan BQM-34A (Q-2C) Firebee – Cold War Target Drone
The Firebee drone featured a compact fuselage, jet propulsion, and detachable launch systems. It could be recovered after missions using parachute systems. The trailer included in this kit represents the ground equipment used for storage, transport, and preparation of the drone before launch.
For modelers: Small UAV or drone subjects can be enhanced by careful painting of panel lines and equipment details. Displaying the model together with the transport trailer helps recreate a realistic ground preparation scene.
