D
The ICM model experience is wonderful. Their kits are perfectly engineered. The I-16 type 18 was no exception. The detail in the cockpit and motor is incredible. Due to the precise engineering, everything must be placed exactly as it is intended, or it's possible to throw everything off, so careful work is required. The nice thing about this kit is also that you can make the type 24 and type 28 as well. I am very pleased with the kit and how well it goes together, but I have learned, ICM makes kits for modelers who are willing to take their time to test fit before assembly to get the precise fit required.
Description
Polikarpov I-16 Type 18 is a 1/72 scale plastic aircraft model kit from ICM representing the well-known Soviet single-seat fighter used during World War II. The I-16 was one of the first mass-produced monoplane fighters with retractable landing gear and played an important role in early wartime air operations. The kit is supplied as an unpainted and unassembled plastic model.
The Polikarpov I-16 first entered service in the mid-1930s and remained in operational use during the early years of the Second World War. The Type 18 variant represented a later production version equipped with improved engine performance and armament compared with earlier variants.
Polikarpov I-16 Type 18 – World War II Soviet Fighter
The aircraft featured a compact fuselage, radial engine, and distinctive short wings. Despite its small size, the I-16 was highly maneuverable and served as one of the primary fighters of Soviet air units during the early stages of the conflict.
For modelers: Small 1/72 scale fighters benefit from careful cockpit preparation and canopy masking before painting. Subtle weathering and panel line shading can help emphasize surface details on compact aircraft models.
