Description
MiG Ye-50 aircraft model kit in 1:72 scale represents a Soviet experimental interceptor developed during the early Cold War to investigate extreme climb performance using a combined turbojet and rocket propulsion system.
The Ye-50 (also designated E-50) was designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau as a further development of earlier Ye-series interceptors. The aircraft was equipped with a conventional turbojet engine supplemented by a liquid-fuel rocket engine to provide short-duration thrust for rapid ascent and high-altitude interception.
MiG Ye-50 – Rocket-Assisted Interceptor Prototype
Flight testing of the Ye-50 took place in the mid-1950s following a Soviet government directive issued on August 25, 1956, which authorized continued testing and the construction of a limited experimental series. The program focused on evaluating combined propulsion concepts rather than producing an operational interceptor.
Although the Ye-50 demonstrated impressive climb characteristics, the complexity and operational limitations of rocket-assisted propulsion prevented the aircraft from entering service. The experience gained contributed to the broader understanding of high-altitude interceptor development during the early jet age.
This plastic model kit by A&A Models accurately represents the distinctive configuration of the Ye-50, making it suitable for builders interested in experimental aircraft and unconventional propulsion concepts.
The kit belongs to the Aircraft Model Kits category and is produced in 1:72 scale, allowing it to be displayed alongside other early Cold War experimental jet aircraft models.
