Description
Resurgam in 1/144 scale is a plastic model kit by Mikro Mir representing an early British experimental submarine developed in the nineteenth century. The vessel was designed by the inventor and clergyman George William Garrett as part of some of the earliest submarine experiments carried out in the United Kingdom.
The Resurgam project aimed to demonstrate the practical use of a submersible craft powered by a steam engine system adapted for underwater operation. Built in the late 1870s, the submarine used stored steam pressure to drive a propeller while submerged. Although the vessel was lost during a towing voyage before entering regular service, it remains an important example of early submarine engineering.
Resurgam - Early British Experimental Submarine
Resurgam was one of the first attempts in Britain to create a workable underwater craft capable of controlled submerged propulsion. The design combined a cylindrical hull with a single propeller and limited diving capability. Despite its experimental nature and short operational history, the submarine reflects an important stage in the development of underwater naval technology.
For modelers: Early submarines such as Resurgam feature relatively simple hull geometry, making careful alignment of the hull halves and smooth finishing of the surface particularly important for maintaining the characteristic cylindrical shape of the prototype.
