Description
Martin XB-51 is represented in this 1/72 scale plastic model kit from Mikro Mir, depicting the experimental American jet bomber developed during the early Cold War.
The XB-51 was designed by the Glenn L. Martin Company in the late 1940s as a fast tactical bomber prototype for the United States Air Force. The aircraft featured an unusual configuration with three turbojet engines and a variable-incidence wing intended to improve takeoff and landing characteristics.
Martin XB-51 - Experimental Tactical Jet Bomber
The aircraft’s design incorporated two engines mounted under the forward fuselage and a third engine in the tail section. Its highly distinctive layout and advanced aerodynamic concepts made the XB-51 one of the more unconventional jet bomber prototypes developed during the early jet age.
For modelers: Aircraft with unconventional engine layouts benefit from careful alignment of the fuselage and nacelle assemblies. Dry fitting the wings and landing gear before final assembly helps maintain proper geometry on this distinctive prototype aircraft.
